How to upgrade to the latest version of AOMEI Backupper

AOMEI Backupper will be continuously updated, new versions will optimize existing features or add new ones, if you want to experience the new version in time, you can do the version upgrade.

There are two ways to upgrade the software to the latest version, automate update and manual upgrade.

Automate Upgrade

If there is a new version released, you may see the pop-up when launch the current old version, and you may follow the steps to update.

1. Click the Update Now button on the update window.


Tip: If you didn't see the pop-up when launching the software,  you can also click the three-line button-> Check for Updates to open it.


2. Then, it will automatically download the installation package for the latest version.

Tip: If it fails to download the installation package,  you may click Download Manually to download the installation package and then manually install the latest version.


3.  If your AOMEI Backupper is still running, there may appear a pop-up saying that the program is running, please click OK to exit and continue to install the update.


4. Then, it will start to uninstall the old version and install the new one, please wait a moment.


4. After the installation is completed, you may click Enjoy Now to launch the latest version. So you can see if it is the latest version on the main screen.

Tips, "Join the User Experience Improvement Program" is ticked by default, it primarily collect anonymized usage data, which includes information about how the software is used, its performance, and system-related details. By sharing this type of information, users help developers identify areas for improvement, fix bugs, and enhance the overall user experience. Rest assured, it doesn't gather any private or personally identifiable information.


Manually Upgrade

You can also manually download the latest version and install it.

1. Click here to download the installation package of the latest version of  AOMEI Backupper. 

2.  Please click the downloaded installation program to start to install. 


  • If the old version of the software is detected during the installation of the new version, please click Yes to uninstall the old version first and then install the new version.
  • Uninstalling an older version will still retain the backup configuration information. When a new version is installed, the previous backup configuration is automatically loaded.


3. For a paid edition, you may click Yes to retain your registration information when uninstalling the old version. In this case, there is no need to register for the new version again.


4. Then it will start to uninstall the old version, please wait a moment.


5. After the uninstallation is completed, please click Install Now to install the new one.


  • please click the "I agree the agreement"  to view the agreement before installing, and tick this option to continue to install.
  • You can also click the Path to change the installation path, otherwise, the software will be installed in C drive by default.


6. Then it will start to install, please wait a moment.


7. Click Enjoy Now to launch the latest version.



The problems that existed in the old version have been fixed in the new version. Updating the software to the latest version will keep you informed and up to date with the new features of the software, in addition to avoiding possible bugs.


Q: The installation of AOMEI Backupper may require the system to be restarted but the installation will not continue after the system reboots.
A: You may need to manually delete the registry of AOMEI Backupper to remove it completely, and then continue to install. Please check how to delete the registry of the program here.

Q:  When reinstalling AOMEI Backupper, the following error occurs: "C:\Windows\System32\amwrtdrv.sys  An error occurred while trying to replace the existing file: DeleteFile Failed; code 5. Access is denied.".
A: You may click the "Ignore" button to skip this file to install. If the problem persists, please try to thoroughly uninstall the program and reinstall the program. (Delete files in the registry) You can check more instructions here.

Q: Why did the software become a trial version after upgrading to the new version?
A:  It may be because the registration information was not retained when uninstalling the old version, verification of the registration information failed, or the registration information has become invalid.
