What's HDD image?

A hard disk drive (HDD) stores data on a rotating platter and uses a mechanical arm with a read/write head to move around and read information. An HDD Image is nothing more than a direct copy of the entire drive but compressed into a single file for space conservation. After you create HDD image, restoring the entire image to a separate drive or retrieving individual files from within the image are possible. In a word, there are many uses of HDD image.

Uses of HDD image

With a disk image backup, you can restore data to the previous normal state when you purchase a new computer, you can upgrade your old hard disk to a new one in order to solve the problem of low running speed, and you can restore the files you lost caused by disk problems due to system crash or something else. For example, it is not HDD but SSD that becomes a trend nowadays. Because solid state drive is much faster and more durable than HDD without moving parts and storing information in microchips.

In addition, considering the type of SSD’s flash memory, you can read and write to an SSD all day long and the data storage integrity will be maintained for a very very long time. So, there may be a need for you to create image of hard drive so as to upgrade to SSD. In order to achieve this job, we recommend you use AOMEI Backupper Standard.
