Case: How do I migrate everything to Sabrent NVMe SSD?

I have a Samsung 850 EVO and I’m trying to clone everything to a Sabrent Rocket NVMe SSD. I downloaded the Samsung migration tool, I can’t seem to pick any other drive except the Samsung ones. How can I do this?

Sabrent is a hardware manufacturer dedicated to providing the latest technology at an affordable price, and the representative product line is Sabrent Rocket, which comes in M.2 form factor and connects to the host system over PCI-Express 3.0 x4 NVMe interface.

If you want to upgrade an old hard drive or solid state drive to Sabrent SSD for better performance, or conversely, replace Sabrent SSD with another disk, here comes the needs for data and OS migration.

In this post, I will introduce both the Sabrent migration tool provided by Acronis, and another disk cloning software with a wider range of applications as alternative.

Specialized Sabrent cloning software for data migration

Just as Samsung Data Migration Software for Samsung SSDs, Sabrent also has its own migration solution - Acronis True Image for Sabrent software. You could download it from the official site.

After installation, the basic procedure of this Sabrent SSD clone software was like:

Select Clone Disk on the TOOLS page >> Choose Automatic mode >> Select the source disk and target disk separately >> Confirm the deletions of all the partitions on the target disk, and click Proceed to start clone.

Acronis True Image for Sabrent not working?

I cloned old SSD to Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe 4.0. and Acronis prompted to restart pc with only the clone. I don't think the clone worked on the new SSD. When I rebooted, the pc could not recognize any OS.

It may not seem difficult to use the Sabrent migration software, but there are also some downsides:

  • It is not lightweight, and may take you some time to complete download and installation.
  • It requires at least one Sabrent SSD connected to the system, and therefore cannot be used widely.
  • There are quite a few reports of PC not booting from the cloned Sabrent SSD, as shown in the case above.

If these problems actually bother you, you could try another Sabrent SSD clone software as alternative.

Efficient disk cloning software for Sabrent and other SSD/HDD

AOMEI Backupper Professional is an all-around data protection and migration tool for Windows 11/10/8/7/XP/Vista. It’s not just a Sabrent Rocket clone software, but applies to all HDDs and SSDs without brand restrictions. Even if you stop using Sabrent SSDs one day, you can still use it on other products.

It includes complete cloning options to migrate selected partition (s), entire disk or only operating system.

The cloning process will copy only used sectors by default, so you can clone a larger drive to smaller drive easily as long as it’s large enough to hold all your existing data.

This software supports cloning MBR and GPT system disks. This is important because booting from Sabrent NVMe SSD is only available on systems that support UEFI, and GPT is the partition style that working with UEFI. With AOMEI Backupper, you could directly clone GPT to GPT, or clone MBR to GPT without conversion.

It contains SSD alignment feature to improve the performance of the Sabrent SSD and prolong its life span.

*Clone features in free trial can only be demonstrated. Please upgrade for full functionality.

As an example, I will show you how to clone old hard drive to Sabrent NVMe SSD via AOMEI Backupper.

Practice: Migrate hard drive to Sabrent Rocket via cloning software

Precautions for Sabrent SSD cloning:

If you are new to NVMe SSD, please make sure your PC supports UEFI boot mode, and your motherboard has an M.2 PCIe slot that supports NVMe.
Install the Sabrent SSD to your PC properly. If you are cloning NVMe to NVMe and there's only one applicable slot, you may need an external enclosure to connect the target one.
The cloning process will overwrite the target disk. So if there’s any important data on it, please use the backup features of the software to protect it.

Steps to clone hard drive to Sabrent SSD:

1. Launch the Sabrent cloning software, select Clone tab and choose Disk Clone to migrate the entire disk.

If you only want to clone Windows 10 to NVMe SSD, please choose System Clone.

2. Specify the source hard drive, and then select the Sabrent SSD as the destination. Click Next to continue.

select disk

3. Tick SSD Alignment option to accelerate the writing & reading speed of target SSD, and click Start Clone.

Sector By Sector Clone: If your target disk is lager or equal-sized, you could tick this option to copy all the sectors, including blank and bad sectors.
Edit Partitions: Adjust the partition size and drive letter of the target disk. With it, you can assign unallocated space on a larger target disk.

How to boot from the cloned Sabrent NVMe SSD securely

The most direct way to switch boot drive is to shut down the computer, and replace the old disk with the Sabrent NVMe SSD mechanically. But if your PC was booting in Legacy BIOS mode before, you need to press the specific key during startup to enter BIOS settings, and change the boot mode into UEFI, because only on UEFI-based PC can Windows boot from GPT.

Change Legacy to UEFI

Another situation is that you have enough slots on the motherboard, and want to keep the old disk as storage drive. Then you don't have to remove it, just boot to UEFI by pressing the manufacturer key, and set the cloned Sabrent SSD as the first boot option. Likewise, if your PC was previously booting in BIOS legacy mode, you need to manually switch it to UEFI mode to support the NVMe SSD.

After saving the changes, your PC shall be able to boot from the cloned drive successfully. If there are still problems, please refer to cloned SSD won’t boot.

Summary

Sabrent cloning software like Acronis True Image for Sabrent helps you migrate data from old hard drive to Sabrent products, but it’s not the easiest one and sometimes won’t work properly. As an alternative, you could turn to the powerful clone features of AOMEI Backupper.

It enables you to clone disk or OS with several simple steps. After cloning, you can use the Disk Wipe tool to erase hard drive or selected partitions to free up disk space. If you want to use these features on multiple PCs without installing, you can also create a portable disk cloning software on removable device.
