Method 3: Delete cleanup.xml and pending.xml

Step 1. Go to the command prompt via System Recovery Options.

Step 2. Delete the cleanup.xml folder in the command prompt. You can type the following commands and press Enter.

del c: \windows\winsxs\cleanup.xml

del c: \windows\winsxs\pending.xml

Step 4. Type exit to quit this window.
