How to Install KB5034441 on Windows 10/11 Successfully

As mentioned above, you need to extend the recovery partition to fix error 0x80070643. Although Microsoft suggests increasing the partition size slightly, increasing it to 2 GB has proven more effective. Here are two ways to go.

Method 1: Recreate Bigger Recovery Partition via CMD

1. Open a Command Prompt window (cmd) as admin.

2. Type reagentc /info to check the WinRE status.

3. (Optional) Type reagentc /disable to disable the WinRE if it is enabled now.

4. Shrink the OS partition and prepare the disk for a new recovery partition. Please type the following commands in order.

  • diskpart
  • list disk
  • sel disk 0 (“0” is the OS disk index)
  • list part
  • sel part 3 (Replace “3” with the index of the partition which has enough space)
  • shrink desired=2000 minimum=2000

List Partition

5. Type sel part 4 (“4” is the WinRE partition index) to select the WinRE partition.

6. Type delete partition override to delete the WinRE partition.

7. Create a new recovery partition.

  • If your system disk is a GPT disk, run create partition primary id=de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac followed by the command gpt attributes =0x8000000000000001
  • If your system disk is an MBR disk, run create partition primary id=27

Note: You can check your system disk partition style in the section after you run the “list disk” command. If there is an asterisk character (*) in the “Gpt” column, then the drive is GPT. Otherwise, the drive is MBR.

8. Run format quick fs=ntfs label=“Recovery” to format the partition.

9. Run list vol to confirm that the WinRE partition is created.

10. Run exit to exit from diskpart.

11. Run reagentc /enable to re-enable WinRE. Then, run reagentc /info to confirm where WinRE is installed.

12. Restart your computer and try installing the KB5034441 update again.
