AOMEI Backupper's deletion mechanisms free you out of low disk space

The disk that your backup is saved on doesn’t have enough free space? Backup disk is almost full? Low disk space for backup? Backup failed due to lack of space? As the size of disk space is limited, if you set up a schedule to automatically do backup (e.g. daily or weekly), your backup disk will run out of space quickly or someday. It is a real pain to manually delete old backups. Fortunately, AOMEI Backupper makes it easy to delete old backup image files automatically.

Deletion Mechanisms

Either during or after a backup, AOMEI Backupper can automatically delete old backups to free up disk space for new backups based on the mechanisms below:
Delete full backup and its chained incremental or differential backups older than a specified number of days, weeks, months, or years just after the next backup finishes.
Retain a maximum number of full backup and its chained incremental or differential backups, deleting excess backups just after the next backup finishes.

How to Enable Backup Scheme?

AOMEI backup disk space manager, also called backup scheme, only applies to Professional, Server and Technician Editions of AOMEI Backupper. There are two ways to enable Backup Scheme:

Way 1: Enable "Backup Scheme" after Creating a Backup Task

On the Home tab -> under Backup Management -> select a backup task -> click Advanced and select Edit Backup. In the pop-up window, select Backup Scheme tab.

Way 2: Enable "Backup Scheme" during the Process of Creating a Backup Task

When you creating a backup task, you will find several options on the bottom of the window, Options, Schedule, and Scheme. Click Scheme and a window will pop up.

After opening Backup Scheme window, you are able to manage backup disk space.

Step 1. In the main pane, tick Enable Backup Scheme.

Step 2. Select a deletion mechanism (Full Backup Scheme, Incremental Backup Scheme, Differential Backup Scheme, Space Management Scheme, or Other Backup Scheme).

Step 3. Enter the number of backups you want to retain.

Step 4. Click OK.
