Backup contents of iPhone without iTunes

Hi, I don’t want to sync the contents between my iPhone and iTunes but I really need to backup (and restore) music, photos, videos, etc. Any advice, please?

- Question from Apple Community

Originally, iTunes is used to organize, collect and store Apple users’ music collections. With time passing by, iTunes can backup the contents of other devices, as well as share files with computers. However, the performance of iTunes is less than satisfactory. Do you start to search for other ways to sync iPhone without iTunes after encountering kinds of iTunes problems? Method 1. Sync iPhone to iPhone directly without iTunes

If you just get a new iPhone and intend to sync the old iPhone to the new one, you can choose Quick Start, which can automatically transfer the data from one iPhone to another as long as both of them are running iOS 12.4 or later.

Preparations and checks before syncing iPhone to iPhone

Before you sync iPhone via Quick Start, there are some notices you need to pay attention to. You also be asked to do some preparatory work.

Enough time. Quick Start takes up both devices, and it usually takes time to finish. Therefore, select a time when you won’t use your old iPhone for a few minutes or hours.
Apple ID. Quick Start can only work under the same Apple ID, so make sure that it’s the Apple ID you want to use. If not, you can turn to Method 3 to change Apple ID without losing data.
Wi-Fi network. Make sure the two iPhones are still on the same Wi-Fi network. If either of them disconnects to Wi-Fi, the process will fail.

Enable Quick Start

Step 1. Place your two iPhones close to each other > Connect them to the same Wi-Fi network.

Step 2. Turn on the target iPhone > On the source iPhone, the Quick Start screen will appear, which will ask you if you want to use your Apple ID to set up your new iPhone > Tap Continue. If you can’t see the option, make sure Bluetooth is turned on.

Enable Quick Start Source Iphone

Step 3. Scan the swirling blue pattern on the target iPhone using the camera of your source iPhone > If asked, you need to enter the passcode on the target iPhone.

Enter Passcode On Target Iphone

If you can’t use the camera on the source iPhone, tap Authenticate Manually, then follow the steps that appear.
You will be asked to set up Touch ID or Face ID, which you can do now or wait until later. Then it’s time to sync data from iPhone to iPhone.
