Hard drive clone

A hard drive or said hard disk is a device to store and retrieve information in the computer. To clone Windows 8 64 bit hard drive or any other hard disk means to copy all things completely from one hard drive to another through software or hardware. In such situations, you may need to clone hard drive:

  • Restoration: When you do a system recovery, hard drive clone can be used. It will clear original contents and restore system with the image file as well as eliminating the computer virus that remain in the hard disk.
  • Full backup: Hard drive clone is equal to a full backup of OS (operating system) and installed software so that it can save much time in system recovery next time.
  • Installations on a new computer: You can install a software and use it immediately on a new computer through hard drive clone.

Differences between 32 bit and 64 bit

With the popularization of Windows 8, more and more systems are divided into 32 bit and 64 bit. What’s the difference between these two types? Here’s a brief introduction.

First, 32-bit or 64-bit OS refers to the ability of CPU (Central Processing Unit) to process data. Nowadays, CPU is usually 64-bit. In fact, it still retains the technology of 32 bit, just some improvements for 64 bit. Second, 32 bit and 64 bit also relate to the memory addressing. In other words, a 32-bit OS supports up to 4G memory. But the maximum memory reaches up to hundreds of millions of bits in 64 bit. However, based on the development of 32-bit software, most of them are still not supported in 64-bit system at present.

Back to the topic, the tutorial below will show you steps to clone Windows 8 64 bit hard drive with AOMEI Backupper, which is not only a free cloning software, but also a powerful backup and recovery tool. It supports both 64 bit and 32 bit in Windows 8/8.1/7/10/XP/Vista.

How to clone Windows 8 64-bit hard dive with free AOMEI Backupper?

Download free AOMEI Backupper Standard version. Install and launch it.

Things you need know:

  • You can clone Windows 8 64 bit hard drive to a small disk. The prerequisite is that the destination disk has enough space to accommodate all valid data on the source disk. AOMEI Backupper will check this problem in advance.
  • All the data on the destination disk will be covered. So you’d better backup those important data before.
  • If the destination disk is a dynamic disk, you should convert it to basic disk first. (This can be solved by AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional Edition.)

Tips here:

  • The “Edit partitions on the destination disk” is to resize partition.
  • Sector by sector clone” will copy all data, even deleted ones. So the destination disk must be larger than or equal to the source disk.
  • If your destination disk is a SSD, ticking “Align partition to optimize for SSD” can accelerate its reading and writing speed.
Confirm And Start

5) When the progress bar reached 100%, click “Finish” to complete.

Five steps in total, easy right? Actually, “Disk Clone” is also called “Disk to Disk” or “D2D”. Apart from this, AOMEI Backupper has many other functions, too. Such as Partition Clone, System Backup and so on, which can make your computer safer and better.
